DJ K-Tel – Pick of 2010 – The Slew “100%”

The Slew¬†”100%”

OK so I 1st heard Kid Koala plays this stuff live at his Code 2010 Olympics show¬†and I went “whooaaa”…I love Wolfmother and his jamming with those guys? ¬†I grew up a rocker and metal head. ¬†This stuff is amazing, combining the best of ¬†awesome classic heavy rock styles with hip hop beats and a wicked touch of the blues.¬†When I listen to this I think of the combo that Aerosmith and Run DMC did. ¬†This takes¬†that to a whole new level. ¬†If you like your rock, check this stuff out and they even offered¬†it up as a free download…check the link below and grab yourself some AWESOMENESS!

A couple years ago, turntablist extraordinaire¬†Kid Koala (a.k.a. Eric San) and his friend Dynomite D (a.k.a. Dylan Frombach) were assigned the task of soundtracking a documentary. Said film never saw the light of day, but its music‚Äîat the urging, and with the assistance, of Wolfmother’s old rhythm section‚Äîis about to. Ex-Wolf-members Chris Ross and Myles Heskett are now set to join¬†Koala on tour as they present The Slew, and they’ll unveil their very special set-up in the cities below. Working with live drums, bass, keys, and six turntables, the group is going to deliver 70-minute sets of raw guitar and some of the dopest manipulated beats you’ve heard all year.

Download 100 percent here. Given away by the Slew

I heard about this guy from a friend looked him up on youtube and couldn’t believe the pages of homemade videos dating back to the mid seventies. this is one of the songs that maybe could have been commercial if it was recorded a little better. i guess that’s the point.. what makes music a product vs a creation.

Nick Middleton – Pick of 2010 – James Blake “James Blake”

James Blake “James Blake”

Looking for something different for a change? I highly encourage you to check out James Blake. His 2009/2010 EP’s have been on heavy rotation on my iPod throughout the year, an amazing and unique sound, definitely one of the most critically acclaimed producers of the past year, a very innovative sound. His debut full-length self-titled album was set to be released February 2011, but was leaked just before Christmas worldwide online for everyone to hear. The new album definitely follows a new formula compared to the rest of his EPs, so it may be a challenging listen for some, but it continues to showcase Blake as a truly innovative producer, this time debuting his own vocals! Crank up “Limit To Your Love” and I think you’ll instantly appreciate his soulful voice and unique low-frequency production.

Lhasa “Lhasa De Sela”

I won’t be able to describe with words how deep i feel her music.. the truth is in her voice. I listened to this album more than any one album last year, i think its a wonderful antidote to all the electronic music i listen to with/without vocals.. Her voice is divine. It’s the last album she made as she passed away on new years day 2010. We shared the same birthday too.. ‘the living road’ would be a desert island album of mine for sure.

Longwalkshortdock – Pick of 2010 – Tame Impala “Innerspeaker”

Tame Impala “Innerspeaker”

I dunno! this one totally caught me off gaurd. Really hooky melodies and strong but simple grooves wrapped in a lo-fi psych rock nastalgia blanket. Also, theres just a little bit of beatles style vocal harmony to hold it all together. I loved it the first time I heard it, and it keeps getting in my head and refusing to crawl out. I turns this shit UP!
